Title:
Art & Architecture: Performance to celebrate Architecture Week Wales.
Date:
2005
Artist:
Marc Rees
Location:
CVA, Cardiff
Background:
In order to mark the beginning of the week’s events, Cywaith Cymru and Cardiff Bay Arts Trust created a performance at the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay. Architecture Week is a nationwide celebration of the collaboration between architects, designers and artist and an examination of their role in shaping the fabric of the contemporary built environment. The week also sought to open the architectural process to popular scrutiny through a series of workshops, lectures seminars and events related to the theme of ‘Art People and Places.’

In Wales, the programme of events was organised jointly by Cywaith Cymru ( Artworks Wales ), Cardiff Bay Arts Trust and the Royal Society of Architects in Wales. The Architecture Week and the RSAW conference were generously supported by a number of sponsors including Klöber roofing systems and Ibstock Brick
Commission:
The performance was developed and presented by one of Wales’ leading choreographers – Marc Rees. The Pierhead Building has a unique quality in terms of architectural space, design, history and current and past uses and Marc explored these contexts through the use of sound, image, light and dance.
