Background:
The Wales Millennium Centre
is a unique arts building celebrating all forms of music theatre – musicals,
opera, ballet and dance – providing a home to a number of companies including
Welsh National Opera, Diversions and the Welsh Youth organisation Urdd Gobaith
Cymru. WMC will celebrate the cultural traditions of Wales and present them to
the wider world while, at the same time, providing a gateway for the best performing
arts in the world to be seen in Wales. Thus, the centre will operate at a local,
national and international level.The centre will be further enhanced by the intervention
of visual artists in specific areas, and design elements such as door furniture
and glass treatments along with a rolling programme of audio visual works will
provide stimulus for learning at all levels.
Commission:
Amber Hiscott is an artist who lives in Swansea and who works in glass in many different ways. Also interested in steel, water and light, Amber’s work can be seen at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, Sheffield Cathedral, Regent Street amongst many others. Amber has lectured and exhibited internationally for 20 years and has work in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Mannheim City and the Nishida Arts Museum in Japan. For the Millennium Centre project she created 200 running metres of external glazing manifestation and an interior concourse wall
